VERSE OF THE DAY
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
This verses summarize the real core of Christian living. If we love someone the way Christ loves us, we will be willing to forgive. If we have experienced God’s grace we will want to pass it to others. And remember, grace is undeserved favor. By giving our enemy a drink, we’re not excusing his misdeeds. We’re recognizing them, forgiving them, and loving the individual in spite of them— just Christ did in our case.
Forgiveness involves both attitude and action. If you find it hard to feel forgiving of someone who has hurt you, try acting forgiving. If appropriate tell this person you would like to heal your relationship. Give him a helping hand. Send him a gift. Smile at him Many times you will realize that right actions leads to right feelings.
Father God in heaven, we thank you for giving us spiritual strength. Being an overcomer of this world is not easy but we know and we believe that with you Jesus we can do all things possible. Continue to give us a forgiving heart to others. Help us to do good with our enemies. This is our prayer in Jesus name we pray. Amen
